Leaders from Arkansas convened on September 23 in Little Rock for the 2026 Arkansas Census Summit, kickstarting efforts for a thorough preparation for the 2030 Census. Hosted by Arkansas Impact Philanthropy and Arkansas Connects & Counts, the summit involved a cross-section of representatives from various sectors—government, business, education, and more—to reflect on the lessons learned during the 2020 Census.
Focus was placed on addressing the significant 5.04% net population undercount in Arkansas from the last census, which highlighted the importance of comprehensive early preparation. Alison Wright from the Arkansas Economic Development Institute emphasized that a precise census is essential for understanding the state’s demographics and needs. Randy Zook, president of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce, reiterated the ramifications of undercounts, stressing the potential loss of resources and the importance of accurate decision-making for future development.
