Mathis ISD Hosts Annual Science and Technology Academic Night
MATHIS — Mathis ISD welcomed parents and families to its annual Science and Technology Academic Night on September 23, providing an interactive glimpse into scientific concepts and technological innovations.
Held in the Mathis Middle School cafeteria, the event featured 44 hands-on stations, each showcasing a unique activity related to science and technology. Superintendent Todd White estimated the attendance at around 500 people.
“Research shows that involved parents contribute to better student outcomes,” said White, emphasizing the importance of parental engagement. The event is part of the district’s Parent and Family University initiative, designed to enhance family involvement in the educational process.
Throughout the evening, families—comprising parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents—participated together in various experiments. “What you see here is a wonderful example of families learning side by side,” White noted.
In addition to fun and education, Parent and Family University events include feedback stations to gather attendees’ insights. “We gather this feedback to inform our district’s development,” White explained. “Both kids and parents have a voice in shaping our future.”
