Land Rover Defender Wolf Series II Unveiled as a Military Pickup Truck

The Defender’s appeal has only grown since the launch of the modern L663 model in 2019, yet a factory-built pickup variant has been noticeably absent—until now. Introducing the Defender Wolf Series II, developed specifically for military applications. This rugged vehicle is not just a Defender with a modified rear, but a proper pickup with a single-cab body and a dedicated load bed.

Built on the sturdy D7x aluminum monocoque, the Wolf Series II boasts superior rigidity and payload capacity, having completed extensive engineering tests, including the rigorous Extreme Event Test process. It has been tested across diverse conditions, ensuring resilience in extreme environments.

While detailed specifications remain undisclosed, the vehicle’s design features a functional load bed, heavy-duty suspension, and robust recovery points, emphasizing a utilitarian aesthetic over flashy designs. Four variants were unveiled at the British Army DVD 2026 event, including a utility vehicle and a tactical mobility vehicle.

This development showcases the potential for a mass-produced Defender pickup without sacrificing the core characteristics that fans love. Should Land Rover decide to pursue this direction, the groundwork is already laid; they only need to refine the concept for civilian use.
