Boston Dynamics initiates robotics trials at Hyundai and reveals plans for growth.

Boston Dynamics recently opened a robotics center at Hyundai’s electric vehicle production site near Savannah, Georgia. This center aims to integrate humanoid robots, particularly the Atlas model, into manufacturing operations. Initially, 25,000 Atlas robots will be deployed across Hyundai’s global factories, with a plan to establish a U.S. facility capable of producing 30,000 robots annually.

The Robotics Metaplant Application Center will serve as a training and test site for these robots, which are designed to take on repetitive tasks and heavy lifting over the next few years. The move is part of Hyundai’s broader strategy to evolve manufacturing, allowing humans and robots to work together safely and efficiently.

In addition to automotive applications, Boston Dynamics is exploring uses for the Atlas robot in sectors like aerospace and logistics. Meanwhile, Toyota is following suit, planning to deploy up to 400,000 robots to modernize its factories by 2028.

Zack Jackowski, Boston Dynamics’ chief product and technology officer, emphasized the goal of enhancing human productivity and safety through automation. The ongoing expansion and collaboration signify a significant shift in the automotive industry’s approach to robotics and automation.
