Should action games allow players to bypass the action?

New Difficulty Level Coming to The Blood of Dawnwalker

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the game director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, has announced an upcoming patch that will introduce a new, easier difficulty setting for players seeking a more relaxed gameplay experience. Currently, the game features a Story mode, which will be renamed Demanding, and a new, simpler mode will allow players to focus on the narrative without the stress of combat challenges.

In a recent interview, Tomaszkiewicz emphasized the feedback received from players requesting an easier difficulty, noting, “Many people are asking for a more easy difficulty.” This move aims to make the game more accessible, allowing players who are more interested in the storyline than in battling adversaries to enjoy a seamless experience.

The Combat Skip Controversy

This announcement raises questions about whether a combat skip option might be included. The concept is quite radical, as few action-oriented games currently allow players to bypass combat entirely. However, it could revolutionize player engagement, particularly in narrative-driven games. Titles like South of Midnight already feature combat-skip mechanics, where players can opt out of fighting.

In addition to the new difficulty levels, the game will introduce a New Game Plus mode, although an exact release date for this feature hasn’t been specified.

Tomaszkiewicz and the development team aim to cater to a wider audience, making The Blood of Dawnwalker an attractive option for players who may not identify as hardcore gamers. As the patch is set to arrive in early October, players are eagerly anticipating how these changes will shape their experience.
