Duncan Sheik Desired an ‘Unconventional’ Setting for His Tales of Romantic Gentlemen

The theatre world lost a remarkable talent with the passing of Tony-winning composer Duncan Sheik on September 17, at the age of 56. Before his death, Sheik was immersed in the creation of his final musical, Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen, set to debut on October 15.

During a preview event, producer Tony Marion shared insights into the production, which features a non-traditional theatre space called The Night Egg. Marion noted that Sheik was intent on breaking from convention, which is reflected in the venue’s design tailored specifically for this show.

The musical is based on Moyoco Anno’s manga and chronicles Colette, a writer in Paris grappling with her toxic love for Léon. Sophia Ann Caruso, known for her role in Beetlejuice, leads the cast as Colette, supported by an ensemble that includes Marc delaCruz, Cory Jeacoma, and several others. Rob Ashford is on directing and choreographing duties, while the production boasts a creative team of notable designers.

Tickets for Memoirs can be purchased at MemoirsMusical.com. The run will continue until January 3, 2027.
