Volvo Cars appoints ex-Porsche North America chief as its global CEO.

A former executive from Porsche North America, Klaus Zellmer, will become the global CEO of Volvo Cars by October 1, 2027, following the retirement of Håkan Samuelsson. Zellmer, who has over 30 years of experience in the automotive sector, previously served as the CEO of Škoda Auto and held various leadership roles at Porsche.

Zellmer’s extensive background includes a business administration degree and a notable tenure at Porsche, where he contributed to the brand’s success. His leadership at Škoda saw record sales and significant growth in electric vehicle deliveries.

Eric Li, chairman of Volvo Cars, praised Zellmer’s deep automotive expertise and international leadership experience, highlighting his suitability for Volvo amid upcoming developments, including a strategy to introduce 13 new models to double profit margins.

Samuelsson has had two terms as CEO, first from 2012 to 2022 and then again starting in April 2025, focusing on the strategic direction of the company during turbulent times in the industry.
