ART Inc. Expands with New Maker Space in Peoria
The Peoria nonprofit ART [Artists ReEnvisioning Tomorrow] Inc. has exciting plans to transform a newly acquired building at 1819 SW Adams St. into a vibrant creative maker space.
Facility Features
Co-founder Nikki Romain shared that the new facility will house:
- A film and media production studio
- An art gallery
- An event venue
- A creative workforce development center
This space aims to engage both youth and the wider community in activities such as filmmaking, digital media, visual arts, entrepreneurship, and collaborative programming. Romain envisions it as a hub for various creative projects, including productions and theater performances.
Growth of ART Inc.
Since its initiation in 2018, ART Inc. has evolved from a small after-school program to a multifaceted organization with 34 full- and part-time staff. The nonprofit is committed to broadening its impact and enhancing arts accessibility throughout Peoria and Central Illinois.
Current Programs
ART Inc. currently offers several programs, including:
- ASALA: After-school arts and academic enrichment
- Pathways: College and career readiness initiative
- SOLVE: Community violence intervention program
- GED programs, youth leadership development, and creative workforce opportunities
Next Steps
Although there isn’t a specific timeline for completing renovations, fundraising efforts are already underway, with an event planned for early November. The building, previously known as the UFS Furniture Outlet, was purchased thanks to support from state Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth.
Romain expressed enthusiasm about the potential impact of the new facility:
“I’m excited to see what we can do here in central Illinois to build this whole new industry.”
