A New Jersey mother, Jennifer Buckley, was arrested after her missing teenage son was found hiding in her basement two days after he was reported missing. The 48-year-old from East Brunswick was charged with obstruction of law enforcement after discrepancies arose during the investigation.
The boy’s father reported him missing when he didn’t return home after being scheduled to be dropped off. Although Jennifer expressed concern for her son’s safety, the father believed he was safe, suspecting she was not being truthful. Investigators noted suspicious actions by Jennifer, such as reaching out to the boy’s school for records during the time he was missing.
Police revisited the home to conduct a further search, leading to the discovery of the teenager in a crawl space in the basement. The police emphasized the seriousness with which they handle missing juvenile cases and urged the community to provide accurate information to avoid diverting resources away from those in genuine need.
