Japan’s Takumi Hojo clinched the first gold medal of the Asian Games on Sunday, marking a strong start for the host nation amidst a week filled with negative headlines. Hojo successfully defended the title earned by his compatriot Kenji Nener three years ago, finishing the race in 52 minutes and 56 seconds, just ahead of China’s Zhang Xiuri, who finished nine seconds later. The bronze medal went to Kazakhstan’s Arlan Zhanabay, who completed the race in 53:11 at the Gamagori City Triathlon Venue.
