The Arc of Greater Williamsburg Celebrates New Building and 50 Years of Service
On Thursday, close to 100 people gathered for a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony for The Arc of Greater Williamsburg’s new facility on McLaws Circle. John McGlennon, chairman of the James City County Board of Supervisors, praised the organization for its impact on the community.
This milestone coincides with The Arc’s 50th anniversary, highlighting its commitment to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Williamsburg area. Executive Director Pam McGregor announced that earlier this year, The Arc launched a capital campaign to acquire a permanent 10,000-square-foot facility at Busch Corporate Center to expand its programming and services.
Currently, The Arc supports 250 clients, aged 18 to 78, offering a range of day and evening programs, respite services for caregivers, and an employment initiative known as Wheels4Work. Many clients and their families attended the celebration. McGregor emphasized the new facility’s role in promoting belonging and empowerment for individuals of all abilities.
Sue Hassan, president of The Arc’s board of directors, announced that a section of the new building will be named in McGregor’s honor, recognizing her leadership and dedication. Hassan remarked, “We are celebrating so much more than a building; we are celebrating more opportunities to bring this community together.”
In conjunction with the anniversary, Frothy Moon Brewhouse launched the “The Arc Anniversary Ale,” with proceeds supporting The Arc’s programs. For more details, visit thearcgw.org.

A new eco-friendly disposable dishware store, Eco Disposable Tableware LLC, will open next month at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets. Founded by Lavinia Adigwe, the company aims to provide sustainable alternatives to conventional disposable products.
Adigwe’s journey began after a troubling experience with common disposable tableware, leading her to research environmentally conscious options. The new store will offer products like natural bamboo straws, cornstarch-based containers, and sugarcane plates. Adigwe states, “We aren’t just selling disposable tableware; we are building a world where every disposable product protects health and conserves the ecosystem.”
