General Motors Day in Michigan
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has officially declared Wednesday as “General Motors Day” in recognition of 118 years of automotive history. The announcement was made during an event held on the Capitol lawn, celebrating GM’s impact as Michigan’s largest automotive employer, providing nearly 50,000 jobs and contributing $28 billion to the state’s GDP.
The celebration featured rides in GM vehicles and speeches from local and state officials. David Massaron, GM’s vice president of infrastructure and corporate citizenship, emphasized the significance of vehicles in people’s lives, stating that they define aspects of personal identity and mobility.
Additionally, GM has pledged $50 million through 2030 to support educational opportunities and skilled trades workforce development throughout Michigan.
