Jim Cramer Discusses Gemini Space Station (GEMI): “Hold It as a Speculative Investment”

Jim Cramer’s Take on Gemini Space Station, Inc. (NASDAQ: GEMI)

During the September 14 episode of Mad Money, a caller asked whether to add to their position in Gemini Space Station, Inc. (GEMI) or to sell their shares purchased at $26. Jim Cramer responded, expressing confidence in the Winklevoss brothers behind the company and suggested keeping the stock as a speculative investment, acknowledging their capability in the crypto space despite current lows.

Expanding Service Streams and Revenue Diversification

Gemini Space Station operates a regulated platform for cryptocurrency, offering trading, custody, derivatives, staking, and credit card services. In the second quarter, the company reported total revenue of $45.5 million, a 37% increase year-over-year, attributed mainly to non-transaction segments.

  • Services Revenue: Up 117% to $26 million.
  • Credit Card Revenue: Increased 231% to $16.2 million due to user base growth.
  • Staking Revenue: Grew 50% to $4 million, reflecting improved validator capabilities.

Facing Core Exchange Declines and Bottom Line Losses

Despite growth in non-transaction revenue, core operations faced challenges:

  • Exchange Revenue: Down 38% year-over-year at $12.5 million.
  • Total Transaction Revenue: Fell 15% to $17.8 million.

The firm had an IPO at $28 per share in September 2025, but its stock has since dipped to the four-dollar range, with a market capitalization of around $540 million. The company’s reported earnings per share were -0.89, missing analyst expectations.

Assessing Institutional Ownership and Bearish Positioning

As of Q2, 13 hedge funds held stakes in GEMI, up from 12 in the previous quarter, despite 18.42% of the float being shorted, indicating significant bearish sentiment amidst ongoing challenges.

Long-term investors must weigh the trade-off between substantial net losses and a depressed stock price versus growing service revenue and strong leadership. While the decline from its IPO price underscores inherent risks, the potential from expanding non-transactional revenue sources suggests that GEMI remains an attractive speculative play for those willing to endure high volatility.
