Bengaluru Leads in Pet Travel with Akasa Air
Bengaluru has emerged as the top city in India for in-cabin pet travel on Akasa Air flights, accounting for more than 30% of over 13,500 pet journeys since the airline began allowing pets in passenger cabins in November 2022. The airline has reported transporting over 3,700 pets to and from Kempegowda International Airport.

- Pet Travel Increase: Demand for pet travel from Bengaluru rose by 53% between 2024 and 2026, growing from 856 to 1,310 journeys.
- Pet Type Preference: Dogs made up 60% of these journeys while cats accounted for 40%.
- Popular Routes: The most frequented routes included flights to Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati, which together formed over 55% of all pet travels from the city.
- Expanded Destinations: Pet parents can now travel with their furry companions to 16 destinations, an increase from 10 since the service began.
With Akasa Air and Air India being the only airlines permitting in-cabin pet travel domestically, Bengaluru’s trend reflects a growing demand among pet owners for pet-friendly travel options. As travel patterns shift, the focus is not just on metro routes but expanding to various leisure and regional destinations as well.
