Howden introduces a specialized division for US sports and entertainment.

Here’s a summary of the article about Howden’s expansion into the US sports & entertainment insurance market:

Howden Launches US Sports & Entertainment Practice

Global insurance broker Howden has established a dedicated US sports & entertainment division, appointing Robbie Henderson as its head in New York. Henderson, who has been with the firm since 2019, has been instrumental in expanding Howden’s international sports portfolio.

Mike Parrish, CEO of Howden Americas, highlighted Henderson’s extensive industry relationships and technical expertise as key advantages for local clients, providing access to international broking experience.

Addressing Complex Event Risks

The launch comes at a time when event risks in live performance, media, and athletics are growing. Brokers are now dealing with overlapping exposures, such as broadcast rights and event cancellation. Howden aims to unify these insurance lines to minimize coverage gaps often seen when coverage is arranged separately.

Henderson expressed enthusiasm for leading operations in the US market, emphasizing Howden’s strong specialist expertise and global capabilities.

Strategic Market Entry

This new division is part of Howden’s strategy to penetrate the domestic specialty retail market. The US accounts for about 60% of global sports and entertainment insurance premiums, making it a vital market for high-capacity contingency placements.

The US unit will support a varied client base, including artists, sports franchises, and production companies, leveraging Howden’s global network of around 400 specialists in 23 countries.

This launch follows Howden’s recent acquisition of Gravitas Insurance Agency, further strengthening its North American presence.
