Cape Coral Woman’s Mission: Reuniting Lost Pets with Their Owners

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Lori Briggs has a clear purpose: to reunite lost pets with their owners.

Reflecting on her skills, Briggs states, “Everybody has something they’re good at. I can walk around and say your dog’s coming here, and they’ll be like, ‘How do you know?'”

Once a crime scene investigator, Briggs now follows paw prints instead of palm prints. She possesses an instinctive ability to track lost animals that she believes cannot be taught: “I can’t teach the instincts, and the feelings, and knowing what to look for.”

Briggs has dedicated herself to reuniting over 1,300 pets with their families, a task that is more labor-intensive than a full-time job, all while working pro bono. “I’d have a lot more money in the bank if this wasn’t my ‘hobby’ per se,” she notes.

What motivates her is not financial compensation but the joy of seeing a once-lost animal safe and sound: “It’s the look on the dog’s face when I catch it, yeah. It’s a good feeling.”

Briggs embodies the belief that life is short, urging others to pursue their passions: “You’ve got one chance at this life. You don’t get do-overs. So if there’s something you want to do, do it.”

To support her mission, Briggs welcomes donations.
