Stormwater initiative to create additional park space along the Eaton Wash in Pasadena

The Pasadena City Council has approved the Eaton Wash Stormwater Capture Project, which will transform an unused area next to the Eaton Wash into public open space. The project involves constructing subsurface infrastructure to divert, treat, and store stormwater from the wash, which will then be returned to the channel. The surface will feature a dog park, a community garden, and a pedestrian bridge to connect with Eaton Blanche Park.

Construction could begin as early as July 2027, with $2.3 million in funding already secured through Los Angeles County’s Measure W for design and engineering, and an additional $6.5 million provided by Caltrans for construction.

Pasadena is also exploring similar stormwater capture initiatives along the Arroyo Seco, though this has faced legal and political hurdles.
