Massasoit Community College’s New Science Building and Health Science Expansion
Brockton, MA — Karolyne Salas, a student intern, is busy in the newly renovated science building at Massasoit Community College, identifying various bee species under a microscope. This lab upgrade, celebrated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 8, represents the first major renovation of an academic building at the college since 1978.
The completed renovation offers enhanced storage, updated technology, and a better layout for students and faculty. Salas, in her second year, appreciates the improvements, stating, “It makes me feel like my education’s being prioritized.” She is processing insects and extracting DNA as part of her internship, preparing her for future studies in biochemistry.
In conjunction with the science building, a groundbreaking ceremony was also held for a new health science building set for completion in fall 2027. This facility will feature hospital-like classrooms, providing students with immersive training experiences to better equip them for careers in healthcare.
College President Bill Mitchell emphasized the transformational impact of these developments, which collectively cost $52 million and represent 40% of the college’s academic space.
