A fire significantly damaged the Santa Maria Supply store on South Blosser Road early Saturday, impacting the family-owned agricultural business. Firefighters from Santa Maria and nearby departments responded, totaling 35 personnel due to local staffing limitations.
Fire Chief Brad Dandridge noted the challenging conditions firefighters faced inside the structure, including heavy-pile storage obstructing movement. Two firefighters were injured, one of whom was hospitalized but has since returned home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, with indications it may have started inside the building, which was primarily used for storing farm equipment. The owners declined to comment but are exploring options to continue serving customers via online services.
Many community members reminisced about a similar fire at the location over two decades ago. Longtime customers expressed concern about finding alternative suppliers for necessary equipment and supplies. Chief Dandridge emphasized the Fire Department’s role in ensuring business safety through inspections.
