New York Giants Roster Tweaks
The New York Giants have recently made some changes to their roster and practice squad.
Roster Changes
-
Waived Receiver: The Giants waived wide receiver Dalen Cambre from their 53-man roster after promoting him from the practice squad. Cambre was added as backup in case Malik Nabers couldn’t play in Week 1 against Dallas.
-
Inactive Status: With Nabers cleared to play, Cambre was inactive during the game on Sunday night.
-
Roster Opening: Cambre’s release opens a spot on the 53-man roster that the Giants plan to fill after Week 1.
-
Possible Addition: The new addition may be a defensive lineman, as GM Joe Schoen hinted at wanting to add depth in that position.
Practice Squad Addition
-
The Giants signed Phil Mafah, a running back, to their practice squad. He fills the roster spot vacated by Cambre.
-
Player Background: Mafah is 6-foot-1 and weighs 232 pounds. He was a seventh-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2025 out of Clemson but only appeared in one game for them.
Cap Space Management
-
Salary Cap Restructure: The Giants restructured Jevon Holland’s contract, converting $11.685 million of his base salary into a signing bonus. This maneuver opened up $5.8 million in cap space for the current year.
-
Total Cap Space: Following this restructure, the Giants have increased their cap space for the 2026 season to $12.728 million, allowing flexibility for future transactions.
Future Considerations
- Holland’s contract adjustment positions him for a potential extension to reduce his cap hit in 2027, which currently stands at $24.739 million.
