This summer, Dan Hirshberg, Khyentse Foundation Associate Teaching Professor of Contemplative Studies in the Center for Asian Studies, led a CU Global Seminar in Japan titled “The Art and Science of Zen.” Students delved into the history, arts, aesthetics, and contemplative traditions of Japanese Zen Buddhism. They explored cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, practiced meditation in the serene mountain hermitages of Koyasan, and engaged in contemplative exercises at various Zen gardens to enhance their understanding of specific designs and styles.
