Meituan is redefining local commerce and travel by harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance operational efficiency. CEO Xing Wang noted during a recent earnings call that the quick commerce sector has shifted focus toward improving marketing and operational efficiency.
A key part of Meituan’s strategy is personalized engagement. Wang emphasized a move from standardized spending to more authentic, experiential forms of consumer engagement through user feedback. Meituan’s AI travel initiatives utilize genuine reviews to influence traveler decisions, showcasing products like the Must-Eat and Must-Visit Lists, which rely on extensive user feedback.
To aid in travel planning, Meituan introduced Xiaotuan, an AI search assistant that transforms complex inquiries into streamlined bookings. This tool also serves hotel partners through the CatPaw platform, which enhances property operations.
Underlying these consumer tools is Meituan’s LongCat-2.0 infrastructure, a foundation for their AI strategy that shapes organizational workflow. With an emphasis on large language models and seamless user experiences, Meituan aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem that integrates digital and physical aspects of travel, highlighting the role of AI in transforming the future of travel and hospitality.
