On September 8, firefighters in Mountain View swiftly responded to a fire that caused significant damage to a commercial structure on Grant Road. Crews were alerted around 3:30 p.m. about flames emerging from a dumpster and trees behind the building.
Upon arrival roughly four minutes later, firefighters discovered flames near three electrical transformers and the main electrical switchgear serving nearby retail stores. They extinguished the fire using two fire hoses, successfully preventing it from spreading to the businesses or adjacent apartments.
The fire was under control by about 4:20 p.m., resulting in an estimated $100,000 in damages. Unfortunately, the incident caused a temporary power outage for approximately 400 customers, as PG&E had to isolate power to the transformers. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, and the fire is currently under investigation.
