Nine individuals, including eight adults and one juvenile, are under a temporary court injunction in Nashville for allegedly being part of a gang known as the Krooks. They are accused of targeting intoxicated tourists and others in the downtown area, using mobile payment apps to steal money from their victims. Some incidents reportedly involved intimidation or assault.
The injunction, issued by Judge Steve Dozier at the end of August, prohibits the group from entering a designated safety zone in downtown Nashville, specifically bounded by Union Street, Korean Veterans Boulevard, the Cumberland River, and Rosa L. Parks Boulevard. It also bars them from engaging in or assisting with phone-based money transfer scams.
Of the nine, five appeared in court recently and agreed to adhere to the injunction, while hearings for the remaining four are pending. Three of the accused have prior robbery convictions. The Metro Nashville Police and the District Attorney’s Office pursued this injunction after previous arrests did not effectively curb the gang’s activities.
