UW-Madison police look into footage from the meat science lab.

University of Wisconsin-Madison police are investigating after a recent graduate, Ryan Blum, released a video he claims to have secretly recorded inside the university’s meat science facility. The footage reportedly shows the use of carbon dioxide to stun pigs before slaughter. Blum spent months planning to record the process, capturing about 83 seconds of video, with less than 30 seconds featuring pigs in what he describes as a CO2 chamber.

UW-Madison confirmed the presence of a carbon dioxide system but stated that the video lacks identifying features for verification. Blum emphasized the need for transparency on campus, noting the facility’s proximity to student residences and recreational areas.

The police have opened an investigation to assess the video’s legitimacy and the claims made by Blum. It’s currently unclear if any charges will be filed against him.
