Houston-area eatery implements additional fees due to inflation pressures, owner reports.

The rising cost of goods and services is affecting both households and businesses in Houston, Texas. Lankford’s, a long-standing restaurant in the area, has expanded despite these economic pressures. Owner Paul Prior highlighted that the costs of essential ingredients like hamburger meat, bacon, and vegetables have surged by 20-30%.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall prices rose by 3.4% in August compared to last year. Many business owners are wary of raising prices for customers. Prior has kept menu prices unchanged since opening three years ago, instead implementing a 3.5% surcharge on credit card purchases to help manage costs. He has also reduced staff shifts and minimized waste.

Despite the challenges, Prior remains optimistic about the future, expressing faith that things will improve.
