The Virginia Tourism Corporation has reported substantial tourism revenue for 2025, with statewide visitor spending hitting $36.2 billion. In Danville and Pittsylvania County, spending exceeded $415 million, marking nearly a 51% increase from 2024. Events like the Three Sisters Marathon, which is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, have attracted travelers to the area. Additionally, the opening of Caesars Virginia casino resort has contributed to the local economy.
Local business owners have expressed excitement about the increase in foot traffic from out-of-town visitors. Cheryl Sutherland, of Main Street Art Collective, noted that many are surprised by what Danville has to offer, particularly following events at the casino. Landon Moss of Moss Mountain Outfitters mentioned that there’s a vibrant atmosphere downtown, enhanced by new visitors. Adam Jones from The Brick Running & Tri Store hopes these tourists will return, recognizing Danville as a great destination.
Overall, the growth in tourism is seen as a key factor in revitalizing the downtown area and supporting small businesses.
