Amodei, Altman, and Musk Join Forces to Urge a Slowdown in AI Development

The leaders of U.S. AI labs are uniting around the need for a more measured approach to AI development. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei advocated for slowing AI progress to prevent potential disasters, receiving support from industry heavyweights like OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk.

Altman pledged that OpenAI would integrate third-party safety evaluators to enhance oversight, mirroring Anthropic’s initiatives. Hugging Face’s CEO Clement Delangue announced an “open alignment initiative,” seeking collaboration with labs focused on safety evaluations.

Andrej Karpathy, a noted AI researcher, expressed optimism for industry collaboration on safety measures, while Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis has previously emphasized the importance of cooperation among AI leaders and governments.
