The European ingredient distributor has launched a new solution combining Zooca’s calanus oil omega, derived from the zooplankton Calanus finmarchicus, with Golden Omega’s high-quality Omega-3 fish oil from South Pacific anchovies. Teresita Rudà, Lehvoss’s head of marketing, noted that this innovation comes as the omega-3 market matures, with consumers seeking science-backed, convenient, and sustainably sourced nutritional options.
This combination helps product developers comply with EFSA requirements for authorized EPA and DHA health claims related to heart, brain, and vision health while maintaining sustainability credentials. As brands face challenges in standing out, there is a growing need for innovative formulations that resonate with consumers.
Zooca’s calanus oil is particularly notable for its sustainable production, with annual quotas set at only 250,000 tonnes against a reproductive capacity of 300 million tonnes. This oil, with its unique wax ester structure, allows for gradual nutrient release and contains not only EPA and DHA but also bioactives like astaxanthin, which offers various health benefits.
The new product, set to launch this autumn in Sweden under the name ‘Holistic Omega-3 Fiskolja PRO,’ aims to meet the demands of an evolving market where premium quality is crucial for commercial success.
