New Director of Korean Cultural Center Emphasizes ‘Experience’ in Türkiye Diplomacy

The new director of the Korean Cultural Center in Türkiye, Park Saeng, aims to enhance interactive cultural programming to foster a deeper understanding of Korean culture through active participation. He emphasizes the importance of experiencing culture directly—through sight, sound, taste, and interaction—rather than just passive observation.

Park’s vision includes organizing joint culinary programs with Turkish television, showcasing Korean and Turkish cuisines together. He believes this initiative can facilitate cultural exchange and pave the way for new artistic forms by bringing the two cultures closer together.

With significant events, such as the upcoming World Heritage Committee meetings in Istanbul, Park anticipates increased cultural exchanges that can elevate South Korea-Türkiye relations. He stresses that cultural diplomacy should be intertwined, advocating for a collaborative approach that enhances mutual understanding and showcases the rich heritage of both nations.

Reflecting on his initial experiences in Türkiye, Park draws parallels between everyday traditions in both countries, such as the shared practice of removing shoes before entering homes. He expresses admiration for Türkiye as a cultural crossroads and recognizes similarities in traditional architecture and social customs.

Looking ahead to 2027, which marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Park plans a series of programs aimed at enhancing participation and cultural immersion, including performances and film events. He underlines that culture serves as a powerful bridge connecting people, reiterating his commitment to strengthening ties between South Korea and Türkiye.
