The Washington Commanders are gearing up for their first game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles, while the team behind the new Commanders Stadium at the old RFK site is in the early stages of project development. They are currently seeking subcontractors and small businesses to participate in this transformative community project.
Clark Construction’s D.C. market CEO, Lee DeLong, emphasized the importance of integrating local businesses into the construction efforts. At the recent “First and Goal” construction kickoff and job fair in Southeast D.C., he noted how crucial these local connections are for the project.
Local businesses, like U.S. Smoke and Fire, are eager for opportunities. Tim Linder, representing the company, expressed how meaningful it would be for them to have a presence in the new stadium.
The job fair provided updates on the construction timeline, revealing that bids for contracts related to escalators, HVAC, and exterior glass are expected this fall. Initial earth moving and enabling work will commence soon, with foundational work beginning in May of next year.
Brian Hanlon, involved in the project, highlighted its significance as a pivotal development for the city, promising improvements in quality of life for residents in surrounding wards. Additionally, the Commanders and the city plan to implement the Commanding Careers Access Program, aimed at facilitating apprenticeship opportunities and career development for the local workforce.
