Brownsville Space Fest Expands with New STEM Events
Brownsville’s Space Fest is set to grow this year, with city leaders anticipating thousands of attendees. A notable addition is a robot competition at Linear Park, where students can either bring their own robots or build one on-site to tackle various challenges.
The Space Fest will introduce several STEM-focused activities, some of which will serve as qualifiers for larger competitions. Nathan Burkhart, the Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau and Space Commerce, emphasized the event’s goal of inspiring K-12 students to explore potential careers in the space industry, encouraging them to envision opportunities within their hometown.
Organizers are actively considering future innovations, including a possible experimental rocket competition for next year. There’s still time for individuals interested in showcasing their work to apply for the new Maker Faire, with applications open online.
Space Fest will take place from September 24 to September 26.
