Pony.ai and Mowasalat (Karwa) recently showcased their progress on a commercial robotaxi service in Doha during the Autonomous e-Mobility Forum. This event, held from September 7 to 9 at the Qatar National Convention Centre, featured the demonstration of Pony.ai’s Gen-7 robotaxis operating without an onboard safety operator.
The robotaxi service is accessible via the Karwa app, covering key areas such as Old Doha, West Bay, including popular landmarks like the Doha Corniche and the National Museum of Qatar. It also offers links between Hamad International Airport and the city, catering to various commuter needs.
Public-road testing started in August 2025, with a commercial pilot program launching in December with trained safety operators. According to Qatar’s Ministry of Transport, passenger satisfaction and safety have surpassed initial expectations, indicating readiness for broader autonomous service adoption.
Dr. James Peng, Pony.ai’s CEO, emphasized the integration of robotaxis into urban transportation, highlighting their potential to provide safe and efficient travel options while enhancing the city’s overall transport network.
