Tend Space Art Center Celebrates One-Year Anniversary in Chauncey, Ohio
CHAUNCEY, Ohio — Tend Space Art Center marked its one-year anniversary on September 4th with a celebration featuring poetry from Jamie Miller and Tatiana Dolgushina, alongside art displays from Connaught Cullen, Rich-Joseph Facun, Bee Huelsman, and Nicole Musgrave.
Located in a former library at 48 Converse St., Tend Space showcases a variety of artistic disciplines from artists within a 75-mile radius. Founder Selena (Len) Loomis, who resides in the building, expressed joy in keeping the space open as a community hub. “This is kind of a fun way … to still be a community space,” Loomis reflected, emphasizing her extensive background in art and art administration.
Throughout the past year, Loomis has organized a multitude of events, including workshops by Beth Bridgeman and natural plaster experts Mud & Lime, as well as yoga sessions with Natalie Johnson. “I’ve honestly just had so much fun at every event that’s happened here,” she noted.
However, the journey hasn’t been without challenges. Loomis mentioned the high operating costs, particularly due to the space’s large size and ceiling height, resulting in significant electric bills.
With new fiscal sponsorship from Fractured Atlas, a New York-based arts organization, Tend Space can now accept tax-deductible donations and grant funding. There is currently an open call for programming in 2027, and interested artists can apply online through their application link.
