Fremont Search & Rescue Expands Facilities
Fremont Search & Rescue has secured a dedicated training and coordination facility, as announced by County Administrator Tony Carochi during a recent meeting with the Fremont County commissioners.
Commissioner Debbie Bell praised the organization, highlighting their commitment to 24/7 emergency response. The all-volunteer team is trained in various disciplines including ground search, technical ropes, swift water rescue, dog search operations, and alpine rescue. Their new facility, located at 1901 E. Main St., will enhance training capabilities, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony was planned for Tuesday.
Commissioner Dwayne McFall acknowledged the group’s dedication and mentioned that the facility provides better training and equipment storage solutions. He also commented on the lengthy completion time of the project.

Positive Financial Performance
County Clerk Justin Grantham reported that the county’s July motor vehicle fees, sales tax, and recording fees reached $1.57 million, surpassing last year’s figures by $153,039 and maintaining an upward trend. Commissioner Bell noted the significant recovery from previous months, while Grantham admitted the reasons for the boost remain unclear, joking that “it is summer.”
Drought Concerns
Despite recent rain, Fremont County remains in severe drought conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Commissioner McFall expressed gratitude for the rain but cautioned that heavy downpours could lead to road washouts. He urged residents to be cautious, stay safe, and prevent fire hazards.
