Himax Launches Cutting-Edge eDP TDDI, Advancing Technology for Automotive Displays

Himax Technologies has announced a groundbreaking automotive TDDI (Touch and Display Driver Integration) solution, featuring the HX83196/HX83197 series. This innovative single-chip technology integrates a high-speed eDP interface with touch and display driver capabilities, specifically designed for next-generation smart car displays that demand large-format and high-resolution performance.

Key Features:

  • Flexible Cascading Design: Supports configurations for displays up to 30 inches and 6K resolution using cascaded TDDI units.
  • High Performance: Provides 2,560 source channels and 1,280 touch channels, with refresh rates of up to 90Hz for smooth visuals.
  • Cost Efficiency: The integration eliminates the need for additional components, simplifying system architecture while reducing overall costs.
  • Enhanced Display Quality: Includes eDP 1.4 DSC technology for efficient data transmission, supporting HDR10+ for improved contrast and image quality.
  • Streamlined Design: Features an on-panel Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) architecture for cleaner display design.

Ming-Cheng Chiu, Executive VP at Himax, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation in automotive display technology, addressing evolving market demands for larger and more functional displays. The new eDP TDDI is currently in the design-in stage with several panel manufacturers and will be showcased at the upcoming SID Vehicle Displays and Interfaces Symposium in Detroit.
