This summer’s box office gross in the U.S. and Canada is projected to reach $4.76 billion, marking the highest ever, driven by blockbusters like “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” ($2.4 billion) and “The Odyssey” ($1.6 billion). The industry saw a 30% improvement over the previous summer and a 9% increase compared to 2019, despite inflation.
Attendance surged with over 322 million tickets sold, largely from younger audiences aged 18-25, who comprised a significant share of moviegoers. Enhanced formats like Imax also gained popularity, especially with films like “The Odyssey,” resulting in robust box-office revenues.
Despite some underperforming titles from major studios, optimism remains. Analysts predict that 2026 might break the $10 billion domestic box office milestone, a target not reached since pre-pandemic times. Gunsky expressed confidence in the industry’s recovery, fueled by a solid slate of films and a return of theatergoers.
