Lauren Bronson Petrous shares insights from her experience as a former senior consultant at Accenture and now as the leader of Boundless & Co., an advisory firm. She emphasizes that conflict is inevitable in any workplace but highlights a common fear surrounding it among leaders. Throughout her career, she’s noticed that many capable professionals often struggle with difficult conversations and feedback, which are essential for building a healthy company culture.
She observed that even senior leaders managing large contracts would sometimes hesitate to confront issues head-on. Conversely, some were direct but lacked the finesse needed to handle sensitive conversations effectively. This gap highlights the discrepancy between talent and leadership skills; many businesses promote top performers without equipping them with necessary management capabilities.
After leaving Accenture, Petrous aimed to provide more tailored support, addressing fundamental issues like conflict navigation and team dynamics. About half of her current work focuses on leadership development, while the other half involves helping companies resolve disputes, often between leaders who struggle to align on their vision.
Petrous concludes that resolution does not necessarily mean achieving harmony, but rather finding clarity on how to progress moving forward.
