President Trump recently unveiled new uniforms for the United States Space Force, drawing inspiration from the film “Starship Troopers.” He shared a mock-up of the design on Truth Social, indicating that the uniforms reflect a modernized interpretation of the film’s aesthetics, which portrays a militaristic future.
The 1997 cult classic, based on Robert Heinlein’s novel, depicts humanity’s battle against alien species. Social media users quickly noted the uniforms’ resemblance to the attire of Imperial officers from “Star Wars,” leading to humorous comments about the potential for a “galactic empire.”
Director Paul Verhoeven has previously described “Starship Troopers” as a satire of fascism, aiming to highlight the obliviousness of fascistic tendencies. During the same social media burst, Trump emphasized space exploration by sharing an image of the moon alongside the phrase “The Moon is Ours.”
Formed under his administration in December 2019, the Space Force is also planning to establish a military Space Academy to cultivate future aerospace professionals, emphasizing the importance of space superiority outlined in their strategic plans.
