Mellonated Festival Promotes Safe Space for Youth in Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH — The third annual Mellonated Festival took place at Pittsburgh’s Mellon Park on Monday, aiming to create a safe environment for young people.
The festival featured live music, food vendors, and a celebrity basketball game. Organizer Malcolm Muhammad emphasized the event’s purpose: “It’s a ‘stop the violence’ event. We want to provide a space for kids to interact, run around, and be kids.”
The festival was supported by Allegheny County’s Main Streets Allegheny initiative, addressing the need for more recreational spaces for youth in Pittsburgh. Muhammad noted the challenges kids face in finding safe places to enjoy themselves.
