San Jose Police have arrested eight suspects, including five teenagers, linked to a fatal shooting that occurred on June 28 during World Cup festivities in downtown San Jose. Six suspects, including a 17-year-old, have been charged with murder, while two others, one being an 18-year-old female, face charges as accessories after the fact.
The arrests took place on September 2, with all suspects identified as residents of San Jose. They are:

– Sabastian Saldana, 34
– Ezequiel Mercado, 20
– Nevaeh Luna-Rosales, 18
– Jaden Diaz-Mejia, 18
– Fabian Diaz-Gomez, 18
– Johnny Picazo, 36
– Unidentified juvenile, 17
The incident occurred around 9:12 PM, when officers responded to reports of a shooting at North Market Street and West Santa Clara Street. They found an adult male victim on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim was found nearby with life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was stabilized.
Detectives utilized a range of investigative techniques, including automated license plate readers and public safety cameras, to progress the investigation quickly. They identified the suspects and executed arrest and search warrants.
Most suspects were arrested in San Jose, while Mercado was located in Los Gatos. Hernandez, Mercado, Diaz-Mejia, Diaz-Gomez, and Picazo were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder, while the juvenile was taken to Juvenile Hall. Saldana and Luna-Rosales face charges for accessory-related crimes.
Police continue to investigate the motive and details surrounding this incident, noted to be the city’s 13th homicide of 2026.
