Lexlab Entertainment Launches to Boost Australian Cinema

By FilmInk Staff

With Australian cinema audiences reaching record levels, Lexlab, a media specialist, introduces Lexlab Entertainment, a new division aimed at supporting independent film distributors. This initiative seeks to enhance the future of Australian cinema and take advantage of the current boom in cinema attendance.

Key Offerings

Lexlab Entertainment is offering up to $10,000 in media support for eligible local film releases. The division was established after successful collaborations with local distributors like Monster Pictures and Rialto Distribution, which helped generate over $125 million in box office revenue.

The launch includes:

  • $5,000 Video Boost: For first release campaigns with a minimum media spend of $50,000.
  • Bespoke Campaign Landing Page: Available for the same budget.
  • For Australian-made films: The support doubles to $10,000.

The focus is on impactful media formats such as YouTube, pre-roll, and BVOD.

Current Market Insights

Despite the positive trends, independent Australian films are not fully benefiting from the cinema recovery. In the first half of 2026, Australian films earned $17.1 million, a slight increase from $12 million in the previous year, yet much of this revenue came from two Hollywood-linked titles.

The data shows that genuinely independent films collectively earned only $7.84 million, comprising just 1.58% of the national box office, with many films earning under $50,000.

Targeted Media Strategy

Lexlab Entertainment operates as an in-house media team, allowing independent distributors to keep their existing creative partners while enhancing media expertise. They emphasize that an effective go-to-market strategy is critical, demonstrated by their Box Office Predictor tool, which estimates potential opening weekend revenues based on extensive campaign data.

Founder Insights

Alfie Lagos, founder of Lexlab Entertainment, stated:

“We provide media muscle to help indie and local films punch above their weight, connecting unique stories with the right audience.”

He noted that while quality is crucial, successful go-to-market strategies can greatly influence box office performance. The division aims to assist independent distributors in maximizing their reach without the overhead of larger competitors.

Industry Support

Grant Hardie, CEO of Monster Pictures, praised Lexlab’s impact:

“Working with Lexlab has been an absolute gamechanger for our movie distribution business.”

Conclusion

As cinema attendance grows, Lexlab Entertainment aims to empower Australian filmmakers and distributors. The launch offer of media support will run until 30 September 2026 and may be extended based on demand. For more information, visit Lexlab Entertainment.
