Adopt a Pet Day: Join Us on September 12th!
Wheeling, W. Va. – Are you looking to welcome a new furry friend into your home? Join Wheeling University and the Ohio County Humane Society for Adopt a Pet Day on Saturday, September 12th. This event coincides with the Mountain East Conference (MEC) and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover Tournament, as well as Wheeling Football’s final non-conference game against Lake Erie.

- When: September 12th, 12:30 PM – 6:00 PM
- Where: Outside the McDonough Center
Meet pets in need of forever homes and learn more about the Ohio County Humane Society’s mission to provide compassionate care for animals.
Zack Zeigler, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Engagement at Wheeling University, says, “We are proud to partner with the Ohio County Humane Society to host Adopt A Pet Day and help these animals find loving homes.”
Why Adopt?
The Ohio County Humane Society has been serving the community since the early 1900s, focusing on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. Currently, they have 29 dogs and 26 cats looking for homes. Adoption fees are $160 for dogs and $60 for cats. You can find the adoption application online here.
Donations of essential items like dry dog food and cat litter are welcome at their location (7011 National Road, Triadelphia, West Virginia).
Weekend of Sports and Fun
This event aligns with a busy weekend of Wheeling Athletics.
- Volleyball Matches:
- 9:30 AM: Neutral site match – Clarion vs. West Virginia State
- 1 PM & 3 PM: Additional matches featuring Wheeling
- Football Game:
- 4 PM: Wheeling Football vs. Lake Erie College
For just $10, fans can attend all volleyball matches and visit the Ohio County Humane Society tent outside the McDonough Center.
