Three Brave K-9s to Be Honored at Space Coast Police K-9 Competition
VIERA, Fla. — This fall, three heroic police K-9s that survived being shot in the line of duty will receive accolades during the 8th Annual Space Coast Police K-9 Competition.
The Space Coast Police K-9 Foundation will present its Courage Under Fire Award to K-9s Appie, Havoc, and Ace in a special ceremony on Friday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at Space Coast Stadium in Viera.
Honoring K-9 Heroes

K-9 Appie: Serves with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and was shot during a duty assignment alongside Officer Victor Guzman.

K-9 Havoc: A member of the Columbus Police Department in Georgia, Havoc was injured while apprehending a fleeing murder suspect but is currently recovering with his handler, Cpl. Brent Wilson.

K-9 Ace: Served with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Ace was shot in the line of duty, resulting in the loss of one leg. He is now retired and will be attending the event with Deputy Natalie Oestreich.
This ceremony marks the first occasion where all three K-9 teams will be honored together.
Competition Details
Following the award presentation, law enforcement and military K-9 teams from across Florida will compete in demonstrations showcasing agility, obedience, speed, and other skills. The annual event also aims to raise awareness and support for the resources necessary for police K-9 teams, including equipment and training.
The Space Coast Police K-9 Foundation has been instrumental in funding patrol dogs for local agencies and providing essential training and equipment such as heat-protection systems, bite suits, and protective vests.
