HARMAN Names Dr. Thomas Irawan as COO for Automotive Division

HARMAN International Announces Appointment of Dr. Thomas Irawan as COO and President Designate of HARMAN Automotive

STAMFORD, CTSeptember 2, 2026 — HARMAN International, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has announced that Dr. Thomas Irawan will join as Chief Operating Officer and President Designate, HARMAN Automotive, effective October 1, 2026.

In this role, Dr. Irawan will lead day-to-day operations and business performance for HARMAN Automotive, joining the Senior Leadership Team. Christian Sobottka, HARMAN’s CEO, will continue as President of HARMAN Automotive, overseeing long-term strategy and transformation initiatives, including the integration of the ZF ADAS business.

As the automotive industry transitions to AI-enabled, software-defined vehicles, HARMAN aims to integrate AI, software, and advanced engineering into cohesive solutions. Dr. Irawan’s leadership is expected to enhance HARMAN’s capabilities in this area.

“The next generation of automotive innovation will be defined by execution,” said Christian Sobottka. “Thomas brings a blend of strategic vision and operational excellence needed to lead HARMAN Automotive.”

Dr. Irawan joins from ETAS, where he was President and Chairman, with a strong background in software-defined vehicle technologies and global operations. He will take over operational leadership across HARMAN’s Intelligent Cockpit, Car Audio, Connectivity, and Automotive Engineering Services sectors.
