The Pentagon is launching a “Secure Space Network” to enhance classified work opportunities for contractors. This initiative will create around 50 Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) nationwide, aimed at reducing existing barriers faced by companies, especially smaller ones, in accessing classified environments.
James R. Mismash highlighted that this network will streamline the process for capable firms to engage with the military, ultimately strengthening the supply chain and delivering necessary capabilities to warfighters more efficiently. SCIFs are fortified spaces designed to protect sensitive information, but their establishment can be prohibitively expensive.
The initiative promises a scalable approach to expanding secure facilities as demand grows, with potential locations for SCIFs including military bases and industry-centric sites. However, specifics about the size, funding, and timeline of the program have not been disclosed.
