Second Chance Animal Services has acquired a former lumber store on Park Avenue in Worcester, intending to transform it into a new veterinary care center and thrift shop to enhance pet care accessibility. The nonprofit purchased the 10,200-square-foot building for $750,000, marking a significant expansion from their current facility.
Sheryl Blancato, the founder and CEO, emphasized the opportunity to rethink access to veterinary care. This site aims to increase appointment capacity and support mobile services for families in underserved areas. The thrift store will provide affordable pet-related resources and diversify revenue streams.
The new facility is expected to open in late 2027, joining other locations in Southbridge, Springfield, and North Brookfield. The organization is launching a $1.2-million fundraising campaign to fund renovations and is seeking support from local businesses for donations of materials and labor.
