Unleashing Starlink V3
SpaceX is preparing to launch its next-generation Starlink “Version 3” satellites, marking a significant step in its orbital flight capabilities. The new Starlink V3 satellites are too large for the Falcon 9 rocket and boast substantial performance upgrades compared to the current Starlink V2 satellites. While the exact number of V3 units for Flight 14 hasn’t been disclosed, SpaceX previously deployed 20 V3s during a flight in July, although those did not reach orbit.
Blue Origin Launches New Facility
In other space news, Blue Origin has broken ground on a satellite hangar at Cape Canaveral, concurrent to the reconstruction of its New Glenn launch pad. This new facility, funded by a $78 million contract from the US Space Force, aims to be completed by 2028 and will support multiple launch providers handling national security payloads.
Thinking Big: Payload Processing Facility
The new Payload Processing Facility (PPF) will span 120,000 square feet and accommodate the larger payload fairings for Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket. CEO Dave Limp detailed that the PPF will include four processing bays and support various missions, showcasing Blue Origin’s ambitious expansion at Cape Canaveral.
