Tokyo, Sept. 4 (Jiji Press)—Matsuya Co., a department store operator, is set to open a new exhibition hall in Tokyo’s Ginza district this Saturday, dedicated to showcasing anime, manga, and other aspects of pop culture.
The Ginza Mirai Museum will occupy the second and third floors of the Matsuya Ginza store’s annex, which will also debut on Saturday. According to Nobuhiro Hattori, a Matsuya executive officer, the new space aims to attract a younger audience and foreign tourists, different from their current customer demographic.
The exhibition hall will present cutting-edge content outside of what is typically available in the main store. Matsuya envisions establishing Ginza as a “holy site” of Japanese culture within five years.
From September 4 to September 29, the museum will feature an exhibit dedicated to the popular Chinese anime “Heaven Official’s Blessing,” accompanied by a themed cafe menu on the third floor of the annex.
