Seattle business owners are facing increasing challenges due to rising crime rates, particularly after the World Cup. Marchelle Varamini, who has operated in the downtown area for almost 30 years with her husband, Farshid, shared their frustrations as their restaurant, Gantry Public House, along with their food truck and hot dog stands, have all been targets of burglary and vandalism.
Marchelle noted that crime has surged in the past six to eight weeks, making the situation nearly unmanageable. She recounted an incident where thieves disguised themselves to break into their restaurant, stealing cash registers and a safe. The process of filing police reports has proven lengthy and cumbersome.
Other local business owners echo her sentiments, wishing for the supportive measures that were in place during the World Cup to remain. Despite these difficulties, the Varaminis remain hopeful as they prepare to open a new location, Sid’s Tavern in Pioneer Square, though it has already experienced theft.
Farshid expressed their love for Seattle, emphasizing that it can return to the vibrant atmosphere witnessed during the World Cup: “We’re not giving up,” he stated.
